St Ives Boat Trips to Seal Island

1 hour

Departing daily from St Ives Harbour.

Our boat trip to Seal Island takes you west along the coast from St Ives harbour to Western Carracks or Seal Island as it is known locally. Carracks means “rocks” in Cornish and they are just that, however these are special as they are home to Atlantic Grey seals.

These seals are a protected species with numbers across the world currently at around 300,000. They can mainly be spotted on the west coasts of England and Scotland as well as the Eastern shores of Canada and in the Scandanavian Baltic with the UK population accounting for under half that of the worldwide one at approximately 112,000.

We take our course along the West coast, passing the beaches of Bamaluz, Porthgwidden and Porthmeor. You will be able the see The Island with the NCI station (National Coastwatch Institution) on top and The Tate Gallery on the way. We also pass the famous rock formation locally called Mans Head.

Once at Seal Island we spend a good amount of time allowing you to get a closer look at the seals and take some photographs. We always take the safety and welfare of the seals as priority and you will be given guidance from the Skipper about conduct once at Seal Island.
